Gorilla trekkings in Rwanda operate similarly to those in Uganda. In both countries, participants gather with others for the gorilla trekking, and on-site rangers determine which gorilla group you will visit. Early in the morning, trackers set out to locate the specific groups, and while you embark on your gorilla trekking, they are usually still in the process of finding the gorillas. It’s almost impossible to predict in advance the distance you’ll need to cover. In both countries, you are allowed to spend a maximum of one hour with the gorillas.

There are about 1000 mountain gorillas alive, highlighting the endangered status of these remarkable creatures. The permit required for a gorilla trek is expensive, but I assure you that the money is very well spent on nature conservation and also benefits the local communities. As a result, mountain gorillas in these areas have attained a very high status, and everything possible is done to protect both the gorillas and their habitats.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″ css=”.vc_custom_1480888191700{padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;background-color: #fcfbfa !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1488389468204{margin-top: 10px !important;margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

Quick Navigation

[/vc_column_text]The regions[vc_empty_space height=”1px”]Safari ideas[vc_empty_space height=”1px”]Photography[vc_empty_space height=”1px”]Accommodation examples[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”grid” anchor=”regios” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css=”.vc_custom_1480886058667{margin-bottom: 60px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Find the habitat of the mountain gorillas

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent”][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”23239″ img_size=”540×280″ qode_css_animation=”element_from_left”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Uganda – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – gorilla trekking

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent” up=”10″][vc_column_text]A gorilla trekking in Bwindi takes you along steep mountainsides and through dense rainforest, an adventure in itself. The gorillas inhabit the tropical rainforest on the mountainsides, along with chimpanzees and golden monkeys.

Volcanoes National Park gained prominence, particularly through the work of Dian Fossey, who observed gorilla groups there from 1967 for many years. She established the Karisoke Research Center. Volcanoes National Park became the base for an impressive study on the rare mountain gorillas and the associated battle against poaching. Even after Dian Fossey’s death in 1985, presumably at the hands of poachers, efforts persisted in protecting the gorillas. Following the Rwandan Civil War (1990-1999), there was a desire to boost tourism, leading to the initiation of unique “baby naming ceremonies” by the local community. During these ceremonies, baby gorillas are ceremonially given their names. This has had a highly positive impact on both the gorilla population and tourism in the region.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent” up=”10″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”23241″ img_size=”540×280″ qode_css_animation=”element_from_right”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”grid” anchor=”safaris” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css=”.vc_custom_1480888121967{background-color: #fcfbfa !important;}”][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_column_text]

Rwanda & Uganda offer breathtaking gorilla trekkings

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=”element_from_fade”][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”21552″ img_size=”350×232″ qode_css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1703009561017{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text]

Gorilla trekking: keep seven meters away from the gorillas….

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent” up=”20″][vc_column_text]

But a gorilla doesn’t know what seven meters is….

It’s an exhausting hike along the mountainsides, through bamboo forests, stumbling over roots, trudging through muddy terrain.
